INFORMATION MANAGER / COPYWRITER
Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe is seeking an
Information Manager / Copywriter for the 2009 season.
Must be intensely detail oriented with a passion for deadline
adherence and a flair for creative copywriting. Ability to work in a
frenetic environment a must.
This six month, salaried, full-time position will begin around March
1, 2009. This position does not offer benefits.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Solicit, organize, and maintain Live Arts artist and show details for
Festival website, show postcards, and Guide.
- Maintain Festival artist library of videos, images, press, etc.
- Lead as liaison between Festival staff and design firm through every
stage of the 2009 Festival Guide by overseeing the collection,
organization and flow of all content.
- Serve as editor for the 2009 Festival Guide.
- Compose blurbs for approximately 20 Live Arts shows.
- Write all introductory text and other contextual descriptions for
Festival website and Guide.
- Plan, write, and maintain content for Festival blog in advance of
Festival + designate writing team for Festival time.
- Proof Philly Fringe blurbs before they post online (100 – 150).
- Compose monthly/bi-monthly Festival E-newsletters.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Our program is open to undergraduate and graduate students and other individuals who have an interest in the performing arts. Our internships are usually unpaid except in those cases (noted below) where an institution or foundation has funded an individual intern. We have developed an Internship Program that serves to reinforce and expand classroom theory and practice, and to enable participants to make informed choices about pursuing careers in the arts. The program is geared toward students enrolled in studies related to the production and administration of the performing arts. We also welcome non-students who seek to gain valuable firsthand experience in the arts in exchange for their efforts. The staff of the Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe is comprised of experienced professionals in the areas of arts administration, programming, marketing and promotion, and development and fundraising. We are happy to partner with faculty, career placement offices, and other appropriate officials at local colleges and universities to afford students the opportunity to obtain a unique educational experience in exchange for academic credit awarded upon successful completion of the program. We offer internships in the following areas: Programming, Marketing and Promotions, Communications, Development and Fundraising, and Arts Administration. Our Managing Director oversees the program, with the assistance of our Office Administrator.
Program Timeframe
We conduct our Internship Program between the months of May and September. Length of internships as well as work schedule will be individualized for each intern based on the needs of our organization, the intern’s goals, and the requirements of the academic institution. Interns typically work for 20-40 hours per week, mostly during the work week of Monday through Friday, between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

Programming Internship
The Programming Intern will work with our Programming Director and Fringe Coordinator on both the Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe. Responsibilities may include assisting the Programming Director with special events during the months preceding the Festival; creating show programs for Live Arts performances; coordinating housing and travel needs for out-of-town artists; assisting the Programming Director with Live Arts artist contracts; data entry and information management in our Festival database; assisting with researching and coordinating logistics surrounding outdoor/site-specific Festival shows. The Programming Intern will assist the Fringe Coordinator in day-to-day operations including artist communication, mass mailings, and other administrative tasks.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be somewhat familiar with events coordination; a self-starter with initiative who can work on projects independently; detail oriented and organized; able to work in a high-stress environment; flexible and adaptable to change. Preferred candidates will have previous experience in running special events, or leading an organization or club.
PAID internship with a $3000 stipend, funded by the Wallace Foundation.

Marketing and Promotions Internship
The Marketing & Promotions Intern will assist the Marketing Department with the development and execution of the marketing plan for the Festival and its individual artists. Responsibilities will include audience research, management of mailings and distribution, special event promotion and assistance, public relations support, and more. The Marketing Intern's time will be focused in Marketing, however, opportunities to supplement experience within other departments according to candidate's goals and interests will be available.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have strong phone and writing skills, and be an enthusiastic self-starter.

Development and Fundraising Internship
The Development Team seeks a part-time, unpaid intern to assist us in the "off season", learning valuable skills in the nonprofit arts environment. You will be a key member of our team, providing assistance as we secure funding through a range of sources including sponsorship, individual donations, and grants. Responsibilities will include: archive and database maintenance; assistance in the planning, promotion, and staging of special events; fulfilling benefits and perks for sponsors and donors; research into current and prospective funders; and communications in a variety of mediums to stakeholders and supporters.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be personable, upbeat, enthusiastic and flexible; able to work independently, but also contribute as a member of a team and receive constructive feedback with equanimity; computer savvy; and a quick learner who easily adapts to changing priorities. Preferred candidates will have academic backgrounds in English or Arts Administration, and have a demonstrable interest in the performing arts.
Benefits: Internship schedules are flexible, but we prefer a minimum commitment of ten weeks, at least fifteen hours / week. In exchange, you will learn about the Development/Fundraising field and gain valuable contacts in the Philadelphia arts community, working in an open, collaborative office environment.

Communications Internship
The Communications Intern will assist the Communications Manager with the production process for the Festival Guide, and with maintaining the Festival’s online presence. The Festival Guide is a full-color, 120-page catalogue that includes descriptions of every show presented in the Festival, and a comprehensive calendar of all Festival events. The Communications Intern will be responsible for managing, fact-checking, and proofreading information for the Festival Guide, and for recording this information in our database. The Communications Intern will also assist in maintaining our online presence by writing and posting updates to our Festival blog, FaceBook, and MySpace pages.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will enjoy writing and have a strong command of grammar and style. The candidate should be a current or former humanities major (preferably English) who has experience working on student newspapers, literary magazines, or other publications. He or she should also have familiarity with using database systems, such as Microsoft Access, and be comfortable navigating websites and using search engines. Preferred candidates will have some familiarity with Philadelphia and its arts and cultural organizations.

Arts Administration Internship
The Arts Administration Intern will work with the Managing Director and Office Administrator. Responsibilities may include: obtaining visas for international artists; working with city agencies to obtain permits for Festival venues and activities; assisting with compliance with 501 (c) (3) requirements; assisting with financial management operations; providing IT assistance with our server, website, and email; helping to maintain efficiency of computer operations; and aiding Office Administrator in managing the office so that staff can achieve the Festival's mission.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be detail oriented and organized, and able to handle multiple projects at once. Preferred candidates will have academic backgrounds in Arts Administration, Business, Finance, Accounting, or IT.

Community Outreach Internship
The Community Outreach Intern will assist the Community Outreach Coordinator with raising the profile of the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe at college campuses and community events throughout the Philadelphia area. Responsibilities will include:
- Researching area community events for Festival promotion
- Coordinating Festival representation at general community and university events
- Exploring new ways to increase audience base for Festival
- Enhancing Festival’s on-line presence and community network
- Investigating opportunities to partner with student groups on various campuses
- Collecting feedback from students, professors, and administrators about the Festival
- Staffing community and university events
- Brainstorming new and creative ways to reach out to students, administrators and professors
- Researching course offerings pertinent to the 2009 Festival season
- Building connections with community organizations
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong social and organizational skills.
